SEMINAR: PRINCIPLES OF GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ELECTRONIC PUBLISHING, OTTAWA, ONTARIO, MARCH 17 & 18, 2005

Are you communicating effectively on all channels?
Are you leaving your audience confused or frustrated?
Is technology standing in the way of expressing your message?

“Excellent design sends messages on two levels: overtly, it communicates understanding; covertly, it communicates credibility.”

Join David Berman for a fun and refreshingly clear exploration of the human and technological factors you can master to use design to get your messages across… more effectively and to larger audiences.

Take full face-to-face advantage of David’s twenty years experience in marrying design principles with the latest electronic publishing technologies, for print and the Internet. Great design is the bridge between knowledge and understanding. You’ll gain both by attending this seminar.

For a detailed description of this in-depth two-day seminar, click https://davidberman.com/seminars/designprinciples.php .

Plus: for this seminar, you will receive:
– complimentary lunches, snacks and beverages throughout (sorry, no green beer…)
– a thirty-minute personal coaching tele-session with David within a month of the seminar
– the option to attend this seminar again in the future, as a refresher, at no cost
– a money-back guarantee: if, after coaching and a refresher, you’re not satisfied, we’ll refund your entire registration fee

Get the registration form at https://davidberman.com/SeminarRegistrationForm.pdf or call (613) 728-6777. Seating is limited.

If you don’t have time for a two-day course this month, you can attend Day 1 this month and Day 2 the next time we give this seminar.

SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE WEB SITES: HABIT #4

Web sites are uncommonly complex projects, requiring “uncommon sense”. Here is the fourth of seven habits to help your Web presence fulfill its promise…

4. Evergreen. No matter how perfect your Web site design is, without an intelligent approach to site maintenance it will wander towards chaos over time. You have two choices. Plan to rebuild the site from scratch starting within two years … or put a mechanism in place that guarantees that every part of the site remains fresh, accurate, and relevant.

And there’s a simple way to do this: Insist, within the content outline for the site, that every content section includes an evergreening plan. This means that nothing goes on the site unless accompanied by a commitment describing who will regularly check that Web site section to make sure it is still relevant, accurate and current, and how often they will do so. Then, add this commitment to their job description, so even if that person leaves someone else will take over.

Evergreening is often as simple as looking over the section and saying “Yes, it’s still so!” and then updating the Reviewed Date. (Though most sites will have a Last Updated date, users are usually more interested in how recently the content was certified as still being valid… thus a Reviewed Date.)

By committing to this simple plan, we now have a site that maintains itself. If a particular section is not important enough to deserve this level of commitment, it does not deserve to go on the site in the first place.

Our next e-newsletter will feature the next habit. Can’t wait? Learn all seven habits and David’s entire methodology, at our upcoming seminar “Successful Management of Web Site Projects” ( https://davidberman.com/seminars/websuccess.php )
