EFFECTIVENESS TIP: MOVE EARLY, ARRIVE EARLY, ENJOY THE JOURNEY...

“I used to do this all the time: You want to make efficient use of every moment, so you pack in activities right up to when you plan to leave for a meeting. Chances are though that by the time you actually get out of your chair to go, you discover that there is more prep than you expected, or your shoes aren’t shined, or it’s raining, or the phone rings … and when you finally get out the door, you end up spending the entire sixteen-minute drive to your destination worrying about getting there on time, praying that the red-light gods aren’t angry, and maybe even thinking unkindly about the people choosing to drive at the speed limit.”

Next time, try this instead: intentionally leave a full 15 minutes earlier than you normally would. What you’ll discover is that not only will you insulate yourself from all the negatives of arriving late and the dangers and stress of rushing… you’ll also discover that instead of spending your commuting time thinking about how to get there 30 seconds more quickly, you’ll actually spend your time in the car thinking about useful things (so there’s your 15 minutes back). At the same you’ll be poised for unexpected opportunities (like that fresh corn stand you’d love to stop at, or an unexpected important incoming call). And what do you do if you actually arrive with time to spare? Bask in the calm powerful glory of arriving early … and make a habit of always carrying something with you that you had to read or do anyhow … or perhaps just breathe for a few minutes while focusing on visualizing the outcomes you’re seeking for the meeting ahead.”

The key to being able to leave early is to make a habit of preparing yourself to be as mobile as possible. The ideal is to always move to the next location as soon as there’s no reason to stay at the current one. Following this rule, I recently found myself at a meeting 30 minutes early … If you’re intrigued to know more, the following seminar is for you…”

SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS SPEAK

“As a solution-oriented person myself, I very much appreciated David not only stating the problems but also giving a possible solution on how each of us can make a difference. Due to his profound knowledge on the subject, his positive thinking, his humour and especially his readiness to question his own statements, I wish next time a longer Q&A session. This one was pure inspiration! Thank you.”

RESOURCE OF THE MONTH: THE OLD PHONE RING TONE REVEALED…

David’s ring tone: People keep asking me where that wonderful ring tone comes from where his mobile sounds like an old black analog telephone. Well, the wait is over: We’ve remixed the ring tone, for both Sony and Nokia polyphonic formats … and they may work on other brands too. To get your copy (at no charge) for your phone, go to the Subscribers only section of our Web site at https://davidberman.com/members.

This month’s username is ” guest ” and the password is ” guest9! ” (no quotes).
