The National Gallery of Canada is located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, as Canada’s premier art gallery.

One of Canada’s best environmental graphics firms, Tudhope & Associates hired us to produce the typographic detail of their overall wayfinding solution for the Gallery. At the time, our typographic studio was Ottawa’s strongest, in the days when art directors still sent out for their type. Working from Tudhope’s briefing and sketches, we developed the layouts and artwork for hundreds of signs, both carved and silkscreened … on a tight timeline for the gallery’s opening in 1988. The signage solution has stood the test of time and continues to help guide almost a million visitors to the Gallery each year.

David’s mother, Shirley Berman, the archivist, liked to point out that her son has perhaps more pieces of work hanging in the National Gallery than anyone else!
