I have been thrilled at the prospect of being in Melbourne for AgIdeas and the excitement doubled when I was researching an Ethics essay and discovered Do Good: How Designers can change the world. I could not put it down (I did read through the appendices. The notes were a real highlight too) and the section that got my mind racing was the call for the certification/ registration of designers. This is an issue that I feel needs to be addressed within Australia.
And so, I would like ask you, please, as a student of the Design Profession and a person who firmly believes “First, do no harm”, during your presentation at AgIdeas in May (Melbourne, Australia), can you please make a call to the Design Community of Australia to initiate the right actions to introduce the Certification of Designers as a professional designation protected by law. I feel it is of utmost importance to the future of Design in Australia and the rights of all Australians.
I think you’re the right person to do this and an authority who’s voice will be heard. If you can not make the call to the audience, I hope you can start the right conversation with the right people.
I am so grateful for your time and am really looking forward to hearing you speak at this years event. I really hope that we can initiate change in the Australian Design Community.
Kind regards,
Kel McIntosh
Kel, thank you for your kind words, and your brilliant focus.
I can’t think of a more important message to share with designers when I am in Melbourne in May than the importance of raising the bar of our profession in this way.
I shall do so!
And I look forward to meeting you in person.
