Interruption Reserve

Use the Interruption Reserve settings, to have TimeTo's Balance All Days feature include a realistic amount of time on each day for unexpected things that arise (or simply taking time for yourself!). If you specify zero for these settings, TimeTo™ will completely fill your days with whatever flexible-date items are available.

Tip: If you are unsure how much time is typical for you, we suggest you use the following formula to get a number to start with, then adjust it up or down depending on how well that number works after two weeks of experimentation during a typical period: calculate how many hours you are typically awake every day, subtract the typical amount of time you spend meetings and at routine activities, then divide the remaining time by 3 to get the amount of time to reserve for interruptions from others. You also may wish to add on top of that time for yourself. Over time, you will learn if the number should be higher or lower.

Reserve For Interruptions Today: Specify how much time TimeTo™ should reserve for unexpected events on the current day. (You are not specifying a value specific to the particular date that happens to be today's date. Rather, you are specifying the amount of interruption reserve TimeTo™ will always use when balancing to apply to whatever date happens to be today's date that day. As the day progresses, TimeTo™ will only reserve a fraction of the amount you specifiy, based upon the proportion of the time within your Day Bounds which remain until the end of the Day Bounds.

Reserve For Interruptions On Each Future Day: This value is similar to the Reserve for Interruptions Today, except that this amount is used when balancing all future days. Many users choose to have this amount the same as the Reserve For Interruptions Today.

Keep Clear Days: Set a range of dates into which non-recurring flexible-date items are not allowed to be scheduled by the Balance All Days feature (unless the item's After Work Hours checkbox is checked). Use this Keep Clear Days feature to reserve time for a vacation or other time when you wouldn't want items scheduled. If you only set the From date, then the range is considered to be just that one day long. If you only set the Through date, then the range is from today until that date. Tip: Any day that contains a work holiday memo item is a Keep Clear day as well, so if you wish to set additional Keep Clear Days or you wish to set up recurring Keep Clear Days, then use the New Work Holiday Memo Item (from the Insert menu).

Minimum Duration For Splittable Items To Be Split Into: Items that have their Splittable checkbox checked will not be split into segments smaller than the number of minutes you designate.
