Use the Interrupt command (or press the Pause key) to pause work on items that have already been started, record the interruption, and then continue the original activity. The Interrupt command is mainly used by those who count on TimeTo™ to keep an accurate log of their time use.
Here's how it typically works:
You have previously started an item (using the Start command) and so the elapsed time is being recorded within that item.
An interruption arises (perhaps the telephone rings), and so you choose the Interrupt command to stop the clock ticking on the started item.
As a result of choosing the Interrupt command, the Interrupt dialog box appears, showing the Start Time and the Duration of the new interrupt item (which will represent the activity that has interrupted the item that was already in progress). The dialog also gives you the opportunity to type a Title for the interruption item (it defaults to "Interruption:"). If you watch the Duration field, you will notice that its minutes increase as time elapses, clocking how long the Interrupt dialog is on the screen.
When the interruption is over, you then press the Save Interruption As Done Item button on the Interrupt dialog box, and the Interrupt dialog box disappears.
Alternatively, you can click the Record Interruption In Existing Item button, which results in the number of minutes of the interruption being added to the title of the existing item rather than a new item being created.
If you didn't choose the Interrupt command as soon as the interruption in the real world actually began, you can still have it reflect accurate time, by modifying either the Start Time or the Duration of the interruption item anytime before pressing the Save Interruption As Done item button. If you increase the Duration, the Start Time will be moved in back in time to accommodate the additional minutes. If you change the Start Time to an earlier time, the Duration will be increased to compensate for the additional time. As well, the Duration of the interrupted item will be adjusted down to match the additional duration given to the interruption item.
After you click the Save Interruption As Done button,
Tip: You can park the Interrupt dialog box in the corner of your screen and access other TimeTo features during the Interrupt.
Note: If you Interrupt when more than one item had been started, TimeTo™ marks all the started items as Done, and only duplicates the last one started.
Note: If you choose the Interrupt command when no item had been started, then after you press Save As Done the original item is left alone, but you still will get the interruption item recorded as done with its Start Time, Duration, and Title as designated in the Interrupt window.
Note: If you have Hide Done Items enabled (in Other Settings, or from the View Menu), you won't be able to see the Done items which result from clicking Save Interruption As Done even though they are there: however they will appear whenever you disable the Hide Done Items setting again in the future.
